Llao Llao

So it was reported that the Queen of Yoghurts will no longer exist after four years in Singapore making way for a new brand Yole ( God knows what the pronunciation is as I initially called the Queen "Lao Lao").

I remember vividly my first encounter with Llao Llao years back at the Wisma Atria outlet when the queue wasn't yet formed and the crowd wasn't that crazy over it yet.

The first taste of Llao Llao for me was topped with coconut sauce and totally unforgettable for me was the company I had then - colleagues who had better tastes opting for the darker looking toppings.

For strange reasons I had the runs later that day and I could only relate the diarrhea to that coconut sauce which I thought was kind of tasty.

Nevertheless I've had many more enjoyable encounters with Llao Llao after that weakened tummy episode without toppings and I kind of enjoyed each and everyone of the petite yoghurt in a green inedible cone.

I'll miss Llao Llao and the company who had it with me.

Melaka - Handsome Restaurant

As the name reveals, this restaurant caters for the handsome chaps and being ugly I can only be thankful that in our midst we had some handsome chaps that could bring us into the restaurant.

There wasn't a crowd and we were the first customers for the evening - at 5pm.

We took the boss' cue to order a few popular dishes - cereal squid (calamari), chili scallop, winter melon soup and importantly salted egg crabs (yes - again)

If I remembered clearly, this was the third meal we had in like two hours but nothing wasted caused the food was really good.

For friends who visit Malacca, do drop in to check out their seafood.

Salted Egg Crabs in Gelang Patah

A 15 minutes drive through the Second Link leads you to a small town called Gelang Patah and there you'll find Tian Lai, a seafood restaurant which serves pretty good seafood at decent prices.

Lunch was good and being the first few customers, it was easy parking right in front of the restaurant.

Greedy us also ordered a traditional steamed fish, frog legs and stir fried clams in chili.

Tendon

The queue leading up into the restaurant was kind of orderly. Afterall, we are Singaporeans.

Ok. Not quite as there were a number of Japanese in line too.

This means that the food must be pretty good that even local Japanese are willing to wait out for a meal.

Too be honest, I'm not so much of a tempura fan but this one is good. The sauce that was poured over the hot rice and freshly made tempura was surely an experience for me.

Watching the chefs carefully lining up the ingredients in the bowl was fascinating.

Bintan Kelong Restaurant

Went on a trip recently to Bintan for two nights with the family and we once again visited Nirwana's Kelong Restaurant.

Popular for the sunset (and food too), we chose to start dinner early at 5.30pm local time.

With the companion of seafood consisting of crabs, prawns and squids to admire the setting sun we spent approximately S$40 per person.

Momma Kong delivery for a Sunday evening ....

Not the best picture to post but I have to say that Momma Kong's food was pretty good.

For a set which cost approximately S$180 for a party of 4, it can be too much to handle.

The highlight of the meal were the three crabs - Butter, Pepper and Bee Hoon soup. (not forgetting the surprisingly good mantou)

At the end of the next week, I recommended it to another group of friends and they too had the thumbs up for Momma Kong.

Erdinger BBQ Prawns

Decided to try a new method of preparing prawns for BBQ and we decided to pour half a bottle of Erdinger into half cooked prawns.

Surely a good try at creating something new as the finished product ended up quickly in the stomachs of guests and what was best - the hot Erdinger made sweet from the fresh tiger prawns.
